An Ordinary Day (In the woods)

I love the woods. I go to them as often as I can and look for all sorts of arthropods (insects, spiders, millipedes, centipedes, etc.). The most common ones we get are Sigmoria millipedes and Bess Beetles, I'd have to say.  Here are some photos from today's collecting trip to the woods behind my house (I also have some beyond the construction site I like to visit):

  1. Hi Ryan! Amazing blog you have here!

I'm a grad student at Cornell U and I'm planning doing my thesis on Bess Beetles! The only problem is that I live in upstate NY and these beetles aren't too common around here. I am hoping to spend some time in the south (Carolinas, Tennessee, etc.) to collect some this spring and I was wondering if you could give me suggestions for parks or other areas that I could collect in? It seems like you have fantastic luck catching these beetles so I figured you would be the person to ask!

You can reach me at jrd264@cornell.edu

    Thanks! :)
